SYNOPSIS OF THE PLAY: GOODBYE, MY FRIENDS!
This musical play celebrates the primary school career of a class of Year 6 pupils, and comes with four original poignant delightful songs (with vocals and instrumental backing tracks). It is very easy to stage, especially after those tiring SATs tests! It gives the children an enjoyable new focus as they complete their final term in Year 6. No musical ability is needed. The children can simply sing along to the backing tracks. Simple sheet music is provided if you wish to perform the songs with piano, guitar etc. The play is suitable for an extended end-of-year assembly for the whole school, hopefully with parents, lasting about 25-30 mins. It can be easily be shortened, by reducing the amount of children's own input in Scene 3. Some schools extend it further by incorporating it into their leavers' prizegiving assembly. The package is also valuable as a basis for PSHE lessons about making the transition from primary to secondary education and issues such as making friends/ bullying/ facing challenges. The script comes with 8 worksheets to assist this process. Schools have used it successfully in other phases e.g. transition from middle school to high school. If your school is single-sex, a few minor amendments to the script (such as pupil names) will be necessary. There are some intentional "gaps" in the script, for you to customise it to suit your own circumstances.
